combat knifes are legal to carry everywhere in GA but statute requires any peace officer or mall security guard who notices you carrying to stop you and administer a mandatory cavity search.

Yes, to carry any knife over 5 inches long you will need a georgia weapons license, pretty much a firearms license. There is a grey area between 3-5 inches... but in atlanta the longest pocket knife you can have is 3" long....

Well, let me make it easier for you. If you do not have a license then you are at risk of getting in trouble if you have a knife over 3" in length, even though the bill states 5 inches... anything over 3" is the grey area.

Now, if you are hiking or camping I wouldn't worry about any laws unless you are acting really weird, but once you hit the citys you better take that sucker off your belt if you are gonna walk around anywhere. Here is a link to the georgia laws pertaining to weapons including knives... I suggest you read it throughroly, it is good to know this stuff..

Hello Skinner, welcome to the forums. There is a special section for knife laws that might get a better response-it is very interesting reading. As long as you are not concealed and are in a appropriate area you sould be ok reguardless of the "military looks" of your blade. Note that GA like most states has a muriad of very vauge laws on the books. Specifically it is not legal if your knife is "offensive or defensive" (yeah right) or in a "Public place". Not only courts, schools, churches, aditoriums etc but most any place might qualify. Just behave yourself and you should be OK. I am not a lawyer but as is true with most things it will depend on the particular LEO involved. I am certain that no permit is needed. YOu may want to check out the cc regulations but I am pretty sure that they apply only to handguns.

This is correct.

The law specifically says any knife with a blade five inches or greater is a "weapon" which requires a license to carry, just like a handgun. Wrong advice can land somebody in trouble.

By the way, it's not a WW2 weapon, it's a current issue M9 bayonet with 7" blade, meaning you definitely need a weapons carry license.

Thanks to Sep for the correct info. I missed the length limit in the GA code, and was trying to give good advise to the OP. Nobody would knowingly mislead another here and as I was typing there were several other replies posted to help.Again, sorry for the misinformation and thats why I (and others) are here-to learn.
