hi

any users of the gerber legend?
what are your experiences with the tool, opinions, reviews?

greetings,

mike

I've got one. The specs and variety of tools is pretty good.

2 cavaets.

One. The handle is slippery when using the pliers. The rubber inserts only help when using the smaller tools.

Two. Construction quality is suspect. My friends gerber multitool lost one of the pinchers from the pliers. Broke clean off.

My wife carries one and I did too for a few years. Despite the complaints I have seen on the web, ours have been rock solid. It's a well-made tool with a lot of clever design elements.

I haven't used mine much so I can't comment on durability, but it has a good tool selection. Only possible problem I see it that it's pretty big. Someone with small hands might have trouble getting around it for leverage on the pliers. On the other hand, it's nice that the pliers pop open on their own.

I've had one for a few years, and I bought 6 for my staff. Out of the 7, 2 have had tools that broke off.

While mine works pretty well, I will replace it with a swisstool at some point. The Swisstool seems more robust, has more tools, and comes in a smaller package.

Denix, I think it's inevitable that with really serious hard use, a multitool will experience damage. ALthough it's supposed to be a lightweight backup, it will get used for real, especially if it has the right tools and does get a lot of jobs done well.

This makes the SOG system really cool -- you can replace individual broken tools, except for the pliers, of course. :)

My friend's Gerber broke and ended up getting thrown into a reservoir in frustration.
I would never buy one.
Leatherman, Victorinox and SOG offer better tools.

Mine broke, Gerber fixed it for free. It lives in the kitchen drawer as a last resort. I carry my leatherman wave as an edc. The design makes the most sense to me, and it seems indestructable to my regular abuse. I would get a leatherman or a SOG first.
