What steel is the Combat Folder blade made of?
I know the smaller brother Covert has ATS-34. The Gerber catalogue does not say, only stainless.

I got the knife today, and it's a very large folder. It's a pity they did not put a clip on it, like the Covert.

I'm sure it's not the covert-- I got mine before the covert was even available, so it is possible that the blade steel has changed.

It must have. Gerber would be more than happy to advertise the fact that the Combat Folder had ATS-34 otherwise.

The Gerber Covert Applegate has ATS-34 steel. The larger Combat folder doesn't come with a pocket clip, but has a nylon sheath. I read an article in Tactical Knives several years ago which stated that the steel on it was 425M.

Well, like I said, maybe they changed the steel on it or something. Mine is the full size, no pocket clip, no LAWKS, crappy nylon sheath set up for vertical or horizontal carry. The blade is clearly stamped ATS-34.

Oops-- correction-- the blade on my AF is not stamped ATS-34. I was showing it to a friend last night, and I checked the blade just to make sure. Lo and behold, no marking indicating the steel type. I guess it helps to verify before you post stuff :) I can't find the box right now, but I am sure it lists the steel as ATS-34. I'll post an update if I can find the box/paperwork.

Does the liner on yours have the larger leaf lock? My liner is very thick and I was wondering if that was to reduce accidental closures. This is the only partially serrated knife I like.

Yes, it does have a large liner release mechanism, larger than tehe actual liner itself.
I think it is that way, to let users wearing gloves close the mechanism. It's the closest explanation I can think of.
I also like the form of the blade, so much that I've ordered another one from Fällkniven, which (still) has a 50% sale, bringing it down to US prices... :D
It says on the package that the user can sharpen the false edge, if desired.

I have seen the Covert being offered to be professionally sharpened on a knife site somewhere, but I've forgotten the URL. Does anyone know which site does that?

I received an email confirmation from the Swedish Gerber representative today, stating that the steel is indeed 425 Modified Stainless Steel hardened to Rc 56-58
