I heard in BLADE that they will retail for $240. Seems a little heavy to me.

It has practically the same blade steel as the Benchmade Pinnacle and they both have titanium handles..so any idea why the Airframe will go for around twice as much+?

You could put nacho cheese sauce on it...

I couldn't find the Airframe up on Gerber's site yet.

I think the big money difference is for cast Ti instead of machined Ti. Why that's such a big difference? I dunno...

One would think that the cast Ti would be less expensive than the milled Ti frames. IMO Gerber may be alittle too proud of the Airframe(which is not that light.) If someone knows why the cast is so expensive let us know.

I don't know about u guys but I always thought casting would make a weaker handle than milling. That is why the cast handle balisongs are $40 and the milled handled ones are $80. Just a thought.

I don't think it has anything to do with strength (all other factors being equal) if a piece is milled or cast. A cast 440C blade (dendritic steel) has the same strength than the one made by stock removal method. No surprise, a blank has been molten steel at one point. Then it gets rolled into bars and then ground into blades. Casting it directly into balde forms skips several production steps and therefore saves time and money. The difficult part is to make the form. Once you have those, further production is fairly easy.

AG Russel has them for $189.

I think the reason they think they can charge so much is their advertising is geared toward the less sophisticated knife user.

On the other hand, net price will probably be around $130 or so. That might possibly be considered competitive.
