This is supposed to be a really good tactical knife. I was sadly disappointed when I actually bought one. The one I have has some vertical blade play. It's around 1mm if you measure from the blade tip. It's pretty significant in my opinion. The sad part was I bought this from a US military base. It was brand new. I should have bought a Cold Steel knife instead...

a very heartfelt first post, but certainly not the first person to voice disapointment with some of Gerber's products and standard of quality control.
i've had two coverts in the past, fortunately i have never found a single fault till this day.
only maybe it's because i insist on inspecting every intended knife in the store before walking out with anything in hand.
dude, i know what you're saying and i agree a 100% that fit 'n finish matters a whole lot.
but, sometimes it pays to make the effort of going over the product physically before laying down or commiting anything.

I just received mine a few hours ago from the mailman - I ordered off the web. Mine is the Covert 154cm with titanium blade coating. It has a minor amount of blade play - and I'm sure when I get home a slight tightening of the pivot pin will take care of that. If it doesn't - thats ok because it really is a minor amount. The blade is centered and the fit and finish is what I believe to be on par with other manufacturers knives of the same price point.
I have bought more expensive knives from other manufacturers that had off center blades, lock issues and blade play right out of the box.
I am not a big fan of Gerber, as I have read quite a bit from other forum members about their "hit and miss" quality, but I was intrigued after handling one in a local knife store.
I think for the price point and what the knife was designed for it is a good knife.
Did you try tightening the pivot to see if that helps your situation?
