I am looking for a knife 40 bucks or less. I am thinking of a Gerber AR 3.0 BB.
any suggestions
thanks

Try a Spyderco Delica, only a few $ more than the Gerber and much better repuation. Or the Spyderco Calypso, THE pocket scalpel

I have carried a Gerber AR 3.0 as my EDC for over a year now. The AUS-8 blade takes a real nice edge and holds it for a while.
The knife has held up fairly well over a year of hard use with only a slight loosening of the blade. For a $30 knife it is hard to beat it looks and handles like a much more expensive knife.

ratboy,

where are you shopping at? If you look on-line, you will find a great selection of discount knives. For good service and prices, go to - http://www.newgraham.com

The Gerber AR 3.0 is a pretty good knife for its pricepoint. As mentioned above, the Spyderco Delica is also great. Check out New Graham and see if anything they have interests you.

I have a Gerber 3 series, not impressed. I'd go with a Spyderco, honestly. The steel doesn't do anything for me, nothing special about the OTB sharpness/edge retention, and my blade developed vertical play with minimal usage. I have the 3.25, but I'm not sure if the 3.0 is any different.

Good luck

Ditto on the Calypso Jr. recommendation. This is a very nice piece of equipment.

I don't have the Gerber, but suspect from the comments in this thread that the Kabar Dozier folder is a better knife for less money--exactly half of your $40 budget. AUS8 blade, Dozier design, solid construction. One of the knives that really does deliver value for money. In four different blade configurations no less. I have the drop point and am considering the new one with the Spydie hole. AG Russell carries these.

Calypso Jr. - or a mini-ambush (my current cheap EDC recc) - which is like a mini griptillian in quality

I carry AR 3.00 as my work/house knife. It's a decent little knife that has held up fine over the yrs.Still has a solid lock-up but most of the black finish has worn off.It serves my purpose very well.

thanks for all the help. I think I am going to get the gerber AR 3.0 BB. My local Lowes sells it for 34.86.
