Gerber Bear Grylls Survival Knife -:)

Just another pointless thread about a knife the OP doesnt even have...What's the point?

I dont have it either but... If you look at the 1 star reviews, the first one is a guy named Victor... if you go to the knife review here on BF, he actually just posted that exact review in details. Sorry but the knife looks like junk and the plastic handle looks poorly made especially after the pommel came off. You can see the detailed pics of it in the thread.

That's fine, as it's a review, not some bandwagon bashing like the OP's post. It's all getting old. ALL of these TV survival stars have background issues, (with the possible exception of Mykel Hawke), and the nonsensical bashing is getting old, especially with Grylls.

Oh, i got it. No I completely agree with that. I really dont care if he sponsored the knife or not. they have to make a living and given the money given to him I am ok with that. I still think its junk, but I dont think it has any bearing on him. As much as i will all my life with the outdoors, he will forget more in his little pinky then all i will know. and thats ok also...:D:thumbup:

I do agree however with the OP, especially in light of the review. the knife is junk. Some things you dont have to buy to realize its junk.:D

BabyJWu,

Elsewhere on this forum there is already one discussion based on a review of this knife going on. There have been other discussions in the recent past.

So what is the point of this separate thread? If you wanted to draw attention to the reviews at Amazon why not do that where the review thread is going on?

My real name is Victor and I did one of the one star reviews on amazon and in the knife reviews and testing forum here on BF. We have pretty much beat this horse to death, but feel free to chime in over there.

I think it looks pretty cool, but it being made in China and the fact that its mystery steel and the fact that it isnt full tang and it broke trying to open a nut, turns me off of owning it. Its a good thought and design but it just isn't made well.

only mykel hawke? i thought cody lundin and mike cantebury both seem to be sensible( though polar opposites in the show lol)

OT,but since you went there - it is Dave Canterbury and that show is a good laugh .

What with Cody crying about the waste of water and game - ROFLMFAO X 10.

I had to stop watching as they taught diddly squat and I hurt myself laughing watching that asshat INSIST on going barefoot in a "SURVIVAL" situation where that would be a real hazard.

It seems the Bears Grylls knife is as fake as his show! :thumbdn:

To the OP: So youve tried the knife out?
For what its worth... this topic has been beat to death on here for a couple of years... more importantly whats that have to do with the knife??
In the knife reviews there's a review of this knife, an actual review of use rather than this thread which is meant to trash gerber or grylls...
Not real constructive, how bout offering up which offerings you find more useful, more adequate than the grylls knife... tell us why, we're all knife knuts who like all the details, but this sewing circle type stuff is silly.
These threads usually dont end well (ala strider dog pile threads and the countless other grylls threads)

I think that we're too quick to bash the BG knife because of who's name is attached to it. Luckily, Horn Dog did a very thorough review and put the knife through it's paces, and it did not measure up. Too bad, because I did like some of the ideas they incorporated into the design (built in sharpener, firesteel, attached whistle, hammer pommel, orange for visibility) -- too bad they didn't make it higher quality.

i honestly dont see a problem with the knife, it did fail but i wouldnt call it a catastrophic failure, not to say that wouldnt/couldnt happen... but ive seen quite a few catastrophic fails in reviews in my time on blade forums by many different manufacturers:)
This knife would probably be more than adequate for most things and i dont worry about the equipment failing in the wild so much as i worry about some misguided person emulating what they see on these shows...
Enthusiasm must be tempered with knowledge and experience:)
