Gerber Bench Marck TAC-II

Can anyone help me find some info on this knife? There is one I have seen and am interested in buying. It is marker fairly low and looks like it is in GREAT shape...a few blade scratches though.

Aprox birth date is 1985. How long did Gerber make this knife and what exactly was it's intended use?
