I saw an auction on "the bay" site for a gerber BMF going for a lot of $$$. I didn't know they were worth anything. Is there some reason why? Thanks.

They are no longer made as well. I have one, practically brand new. Never really used, just looked at it. I probably have the box for it. I will probably keep it for sentimental reasons.

I heard they are really popular with japanese collectors for some reason, I really miss the knives of the 80's especially Gerber back in those days.

Because they are good knives!

Yes they are. I have one that is brand new now. I had one I used a lot a few years ago, but it got stolen. The new one I don't really use much because of the size and the reactions from people  I picked this one up because of the senitmental value I had attached to the old one. I took it everywhere with me in the 80's, camping, canoeing etc. Even had it in at college, back when you could own a knife in school!

There worth so much, cuz there a dicontinued knife. And there exellent quality. what person wouldent want one. plus they look so damn kool, i still can find a knife that compares to it. The 80's sure had the best knives.

Recall that there was also an exclusive Cutlery Shoppe model with a half guard (just the bottom half finger guard) with notches cut into the top ridge of the blade for a positive contact thumb rest. If memory serves me right it was offered just about when "Predator" came on to the big screens (?).
Can't be certain about this but, I do recall reading somewhere within this article whom which the writer seems to think that these Gerbers were made in Italy? Food for thought.

You could get a pretty penny for it, I think they are going for like $200+ now.
