Gerber boot knife?

Back in the 80's my Dad had a Gerber boot knife. It had a black plastic handle and a sheath made of the same hard plastic material, and the knife actually snapped into the sheath. I recall there being both single- and double-edged versions. The blade was maybe 4" long.

I took it with me on a church trip back in high school and it was stolen. I've been trying to replace it now for years, but I can't find any evidence that these knives even existed. Does anyone recall the model I am talking about?

Thanks much for your help.

Sounds like a Gerber Guardian to me. Designed by the legendary Bob Loveless, IIRC. That knife is a classic. It is still made and available at most online knife stores, although with a different sheath and modified handle. The handle on the 80's versions was cast aluminum though, and it had a leather sheath. Did it look like this?

Here's a picture of the Shiv. Could that be it?

That's it! I remember the little clip on the sheath.

So it's called the The Frisco Shiv? Was it rare?

Thanks so much!

I don't think it was that rare. I can remember having one years ago along with some of gerber's other offerings but it is long gone now. Being 62 years old and loving knives all my life, I've seen many come and go, wish I kept some of them.:)

There's one on Ebay now, but it's the double edge. If they show up as frequently as you say, I guess I'll wait and hope for a drop point soon.
