Gerber Bowie Utility handle?

I rope burned the coffin handle of my 12 year old Gerber Bowie. I cut it off, and found it has a plastic sleeve over the tang. It looks kinda like the handle on an their Applegate/ Fairbairn. I would like to replace this with a Micarta Randall Border patrol looking handle. Can this be done, who can do it, & and how much would it cost? The brass hilt is loose, so I need it silver soldered back in place.

Any takers?

If you email me pictures of the knife in it's current state, and a drawing of how you want it to look, I can give you an accurate quote.

I was recently asked at a show to handle a Gerber Bowie Utility blade that came from the factory warped. If your blade is the same as the one I looked at, it should be fairly simple to do, just time consuming.

Does your blade have the soft blasted finish they put on most of their blades? If so, the clean-up after soldering would most likely require reblasting the blade...and getting an exact match to Gerber's finish could prove impossible.

Like I said, email me some pictures and I can get a better feel for exactly what you have/want.

Oh by the way, I didn't do the Gerber because the guy wanted me to finish it, and then sell it for him. I won't put a blade on my table if I didn't make it.

Nick, thanks for the reply. At this time, I do not have a way to e-mail pictures. It is not the knife you have seen. It does have the same finish you describe, but I'm not worried about finish matching. I am trying to bring this knife back into service. I will find someone with a camera and work on getting a picture & drawing to you.
