I have a Gerber bowie Knife. I believe they quit selling them in 1999. Is this knife worth using or would it be better to just leave it NIB on a Shelf. I appreciate any information or opinions and apologize if I am interrupting any significant Avatar discussions. (Sorry, I couldn't resist that last part) I really will appreciate the benefit of this forums expertise.

I tend to say, if you have a knife that is no longer available, and this knife is in new stand, then keep it as collector object...
But do it only if you can afford to get another brand of Bowie knife that u can use...;)

Which one do you have? 1500 were made with a wood handle, 1500 were made with a stag handle and the regular model had a rubber handle. The wood and stag models have already risen in value. The rubber ones have not. Will they someday? Maybe, but if you have a use for the Bowie use it, if not then put it away and see what happens with its value.
