I have a Gerber Bowie that I thought was a great knife. A friend said he had one, and while chopping, the blade removed itself from the handle.
The blade had a 2 inch tang inside plastic, wrapped in rubber (Hypalon?).
If this is so, then I think I would be better off selling it and buying something else cause I like to us what I own, even tho I have only use this once to cut down a small bush.
I like big blades and own several Beckers, but I can't see a two inch tang in a big knife. Just ain't right.

If in doubt, have it rehandled. I would.

If it is one of the '80-'90s bowies, I recall they were of good steel and a fair representation of the genre.

Drill some holes and rivet it to some good walnut handle scales. Then sell it.
