Gerber Brush Thinner - Filling the hollow (like their axes) handle???

I have the original version of the Gerber Brush Thinner, and I'm thinking about filling the handle with some type of epoxy or Gorilla Glue to make it a bit less likely to fracture in cold weather (although I haven't had a problem yet), and stronger over all. Has anyone ever done this with a Gerber axe or Brush Thinner? What would you recommend as a filler?.

You fill it with epoxy, how will you be able to control different expansion rates from splitting the perfectly good handle that it came with?

Those are all by Fiskars, the Finnish company that bought Gerber. Those tools were designed and used in Finland ...i.e. the Arctic Circle. They are aware of extreme cold.

I suggest that you leave it alone.

Also, if they break Gerber will usually replace it for free under their lifetime warranty. If you monkey with it that may void their warranty so use it as is and don't worry about it. Like mentioned above those billhooks traditionally are used all over Europe so it should hold up fine as is.

If you do decide to fill it regardless, I recommend you use that expanding spray urethane foam insulation sold at Home Depot that turns hard but is very lightweight.

Alrighty, then. As I stated, I've never had a problem with it in the couple of years I've had it. I guess reading Bladeforums has gotten to me; there have been a few threads in the last couple of months complaning about the handles either cracking or breaking on these and some axes. I have a feeling that those instances were with the new handle design, which I'm not a big fan of.
