Gerber combat folder

I am looking to buy a half decent folder, but i have a somewhat limited budget, I have been looking at the Applegate-Fairbairn combat folder. I being a southpaw have never owned a liner lock but I think I might try one if I receive any positive replies, any and all help is appreciated, thank you.

I have the Gerber A-F Covert model that provides more of a sense of security in the liner-lock area. Look one over and you'll see why. Feels good in the hand, too.

Gerber makes decent folders, but for about the same price I'd look at Spyderco's Military or Starmate.

Spiderman, I have the A/F Combat and Covert, if I were left handed, I would wait a bit and get an Axis lock, how about a Benchmade-Pardue 720. I don't consider the A/F's to be bad knives, but they have been put down here. There are better knives, better locks. Just a suggestion.

And, if you do go for the AF Gerber, make sure it is of recent manufacture. Early ones had a very poor reputation for lock safety.
The steel is not all that good, either. I forget what grade it is but it isn't up to the Spyderco and Benchmade competition. The Covert addresses both the lock problem (secondary lock) and the steel thing (by using ATS34) .

Wait and get an Axis.
It's a helluva lot better than anything Gerber does.
Benchmade also does a LH AFCK.
Spyderco is coming out with some left handed Military's soon I believe.
Anything but a Gerber A-F. Blechhh...
I don't really care much for the knife as it feels clumsy in my hand and I have a difficult time opening it and I'm concerned with problems others have had with it.

Check out the Axis. You might be pleasently surprised.

Just get a Stryker like everyone else.

Later,
John

Spyderman,
I just did a little price comparisons. You don't have to wait, the prices are about the same for the A/F and the Axis lock. That's the way I would go. I'm sure there are other left handed knives in the same price range. You may want to post in "Want to Buy" Forum, I bet you'll get a lot of choices.
