Curious if anyone has any experience with Gerber warranty department, because it's been three weeks since I contacted them with no response.

I was given a Covert Auto. I have no idea what the previous owner did to it, but it's in rough shape.

False edge sharpened. Poorly. Very poorly.

Lock button and spring are... Gone with the wind.

Screws are stripped or replaced with nonstandard hardware.

I know none of this is strictly covered under ANY warranty ANYWHERE, so at this point I just want to buy replacement parts and blade. Or pay to have it serviced back into a useable knife.

Am I asking too much from Gerber? Am I likely to have to shell out more than the thing is worth?

I'd really like to rehab this thing.

According to Gerber's website, warranty requests are backed up due to Covid and staff shortages.

Beyond that, I'd be utterly shocked if they agreed to rebuild your knife. For one thing, their website says the warranty only applies to the original owner, but perhaps more importantly than that, the warranty refers to "defects", not someone taking the knife apart, losing parts, and replacing parts with non-Gerber parts. I can only assume that Gerber would consider such things "misuse", which their website says their warranty doesn't cover.

Also, their warranty says it does not cover sharpening issues.

On the possible plus side- their site does indicate that they are willing to ship out some parts.

Good luck.

I totally get that, which is why I wasn't expecting strictly "warranty" service. I would absolutely not expect them to repair or replace it free of charge, as it was not damaged through normal use or defect.

This why I offered to purchase the parts or pay for the rebuild. If parts were available through a third party, I'd absolutely go that route but I'm not aware of any.

When it is all said and done, you would be better off just buying a new one!
