Gerber Credentials required

When looking at the Gerber web site I noticed that some of the multi-tools have a notice saying crendentials required. Is there some secret information contained within these tools?

Typically it means you need to be some form of Law Enforcement or Military to make the purchase. An easy example is something like a fully automatic blade is illegal most places but legal if you have credentials.

I assume it's a gimmick for a good % of them. I know the SOG power assist or what not is essentially completely automatic open so that's illegal to own. Maybe it's just to get a discount. I would just assume take a gander at the tools that are being offered to see if they would be illegal somewhere.

A couple of those are made for running networking and comms cables. Interesting that is "military only." The last Gerber tool I had was flimsy and felt like a toy. Never tried one these ones you need credentials for though.

Do the tools have some kind of "crimper" or other device for explosives - that might be part of the concern.

I think the last two answers we on target, hadn't thought of the explosives angle. I will need to take a closer look on the site to see what a de-animator looks like. Sounds cool though. Kind of fun to say "de-animator"
