Gerber DF8 sharpener

Careful posing that question here, as us pull through, easy to use knife sharpener users aren't much liked it these parts....... I think it's a decent shrpener for the $$, btw. I like it, even though I can't shave a hair off a gnat's ass (thanks for a priceless phrase, Cody Lundin!) with my knife after using it... I CAN, however, sharpen a knife anywhere in 20 seconds or less without 20 pieces of equip, a 10 foot handmade leather strop, etc, etc, etc.

He, He, He.........

I'd like to learn how to sharpen my knives but I'm a little afraid of damaging the blades, specially of those most expensive ones. Researching a little, I noticed that every sharpening tool/method has people for and against it.

If you are truly afraid of damaging your blade stay away from power tools.
There isn't much you can do unintentionally to damage a blade with a diamond stone.

Water stones are different beasts entirely (referring to tradition Nagura water stones)

For that type of sharpener, I much prefer the EdgeMaker Pro. I have a set that I have used for 20 years.

I'm there too. I am learning to hand sharpen on a Mora and an Opinal. Both can be had for sub $15 and are great knives to boot. Best of all, you can practice all you want, and if you ruin the knife, you're out pennies.

In the mean time, any sharpener is better than a dull knife.

That looks a lot like the sharpener developed by Furi knives.
Maybe Gerber licensed the patent? Try a search for the Furi knife sharpener, maybe there is a review. I think ive seen the furi one in person, interesting design, it did not seem cheap to me. Furi makes decent kitchen knives too.
I like my spyderco sharpener and hand sharpening too, but I think this product is pretty decent. Deffinately better than those simple pull through with set angle ceramic pieces.

My beater knife is a cheapo SOG Trident. What stones are you using? By the way, I lived in Puyallup for about 2 years. It was nice to look at Mt. Rainier so close from my bedroom.
