Gerber Dime vs Leatherman Squirt Keychain Multitool Challenge

I wouldn't call them limited, they pointed out multiple times that the tasks they were performing are outside of the intended use, minus maybe pulling staples and opening bottles.

My PS4 at this point has been in my pocket longer than anything.

A+ to what Mr. Hacked said. According to a 3-year study funded by the Powernoodle Research Institute, 98.34% of people who dismiss light duty multitools never carry any multitool, and are therefore less prepared than those who always carry light duty MTs.

At a minimum, I always have a PS4, a Vic Manager and a Fenix AAA light in my pocket. Because the whole package weighs about 4 ounces and disappears in my pocket.

Want to rebuild a Corvette engine? Buy a machine shop. Want to have light duty pliers, drivers, file and blade on you 24/7? Grab a PS4.

Sure they can be handy. But in the video their tools even struggle with tasks one would expect them to be address. YMMV

No pocket multittol is going to be as good as any real tool. It's not supposed to be. It's for those times that otherwise, you wouldn't have anything.

I spent years carrying the Sear's 4-way keychain screw driver in my wallet. Used it now and then. It worked. It wasn't as good as a real screw driver, but it did the job. Same thing for a small SAK like the classic. The SD tip on the nail file blade worked when I did some repairs. At the end of the day, it was there in my pocket, and the phillips screw that held the control of the trolling motor didn't know it was not a real tool, but it didn't matter.

I thought the video was kind of lame. Two guys trying to show how ineffective the tools were, but they were trying to make it look harder than it was. Very lame.

You can't carry a real tool chest around with you, but you can go a very long way with a few simple tools in a compact package. I don't think either Victorinox or Leatherman has reaped the millions of sales if their products didn't deliver. I didn't have a tool chest when Ihad to fix a trolling motor on a very big winding lake miles from where I put in, or fixed a dead Vespa motor scooter on a dirt road in the middle of nowhere, or fixed a fishing reel by a river bank miles from anywhere. But the few simple tools I did have worked well. Solced the problem. And that's what it's all about, solving the problem quickly with what you have on hand.

I'll stick with mini tools. They're there when you need something.

I recently replaced a Style with a Squirt. I loved the Style, but it was a gift from an ex and I couldn't carry it anymore. The Squirt has a nice set of tools, but I've found it to be a bit less sturdy. After the first use it developed play in the drivers, and since it is pin construction I can't fix it. I also prefer the ergonomics of the Style when using the pliers.

Still, I think they have worth. I've used whichever one I'm carrying often, for a myriad of tasks.
