Hey guys, I just purchased an outdoor use Gerber Steadfast with 440A steel and now people are telling me that these blades fold out after a few uses and its total junk.

What is your experience with the steadfast ? i read a feild review here hy someone but he only tested it for a day..

Thanks.

The Steadfast is made overseas (China I believe) so of course it's junk.

No really, it should hold up fine for just about anything you use it for.

440A isn't a bad steel at all. It is tough and can take abuse. It's not the best edge holding steel, but on the other hand, it's also easy to touch up.

Like always, it will depend on the quality of the heat treat.

Gerber doesn't get much love on here. LOL. That's because there are many of us who had experience with Gerber before they were bought by Fiskars and the difference between the two companies is like night and day.

That doesn't mean that they don't make good quality knives. Like most companies now, they have products to cover most price points that consumers buy at. Just like Buck, Kershaw, Spyderco, etc.

I've had bad luck with their multi-tools, but I can't say that any folder or fixed blade Gerber that I've had was a bad knife in any way.
