Just picked up this cheap little utility folder, appears to be a great addition to my edc. my only issue is its hard to open one handed, anyone have any simple mods to fix that? thinking grip tape.

I believe it was disco'd because the blade would slip out or fold or do something to cause cuts to the hand. Have a close look and be wary when you use it.

Try something from Buck or Kershaw, both have good knives for low prices. China made Gerbers are incredibly hit or miss with quality.

Maybe a thumb screw to replace the blade screw?

as I understand it, the problems only applied to the first version. if you picked it up new, you should have one of the re-designed versions that don't suffer from the same issues.

Ah... thanks, i appear to be OK, i think it's a newer model. my packaging was destroyed by my impatient extraction of my new blade. but the guard appears to be bigger then the picture on this page http://www.academy.com/index.php?page=content&target=company/recall_notices/gerber_eab_knife
