Anyone know anything about any experimental Mark IIs? I've don't currently have any pics, but a friend showed me a MK II marked "EXP. 04" with simply "GERBER" on the front side. All of the markings were stamped with individual letters and the sheath (old style leather with steel web belt hooks) is stamped "PROTOTYPE" on the front of the strip of leather between the belt loops. It looks like the standard green cast metal handle and a standard, non-canted blade with a serrated section on each side towards the bottom of the blade. The serrated sections have 14 teeth. Different steel type possibly?

I finally had an opportunity to take some detailed photos of this knife and I'm almost certain it's a fake. Now my primary question is what is it? I suspect a "modified" Parker, Frost, or Gutmann model that was made in Japan. At first glance, the markings appear to have been individually struck. However, on close inspection they appear to have been engraved...at least to my eye. The abrasions between the serrated sections also raise my suspicions. Why would they be there except to remove some type of blade etch?

I'd love to hear some thoughts from folks who know a lot more than I do.
