Just bought myself my first assisted opening folder -- the full size Gerber FAST draw. Love this knife, fits great in my pocket, but after having it for two days, I've noticed that when locked open, the blade has some play.

It moves back and forth and side to side a very small amount (almost negligable, but when flicking the knife around the blade play can be felt in the handle). Should I try tightening the pivot screw and adding loctite -- or just take the knife back and get a different one?

Thanks for the help!

Welcome to the Forums!

Try the pivot screw it will probably help. I personally do not use loctite on any of my AO knives. I just tweak the pivot screw when needed, which is not often. Gerber used to make a good product but their overall quality of late has been fading. It is very possible that it will continue to loosen up even with loctite applied. If you get it too tight the AO function will not work properly.

Good luck!

The pivot screw will help but the way this knife locks, vertical (up and down) play will be revelant (read, small amount) but lock-up was solid. I liked this knife and the 440a (?) held up well. To qualify, the first one I got made strange noises and I took it back and traded for a Avalanche. Then on a trip to hardware store, I just had the "new knife fix thing" and got another. I liked this one better.

Enjoy your knife, I think it makes a good beater. It has a low ride clip, I like, also.
