Gerber Fatty $9.99. Good Deal or Bad Deal?

I just visited one of my local knife stores today and bought a Gerber Fatty (partially serrated) for $9.99. This little knife caught my attention and I figured for $10 bucks it's basically disposable (not that I'm going to throw it away).

It feels solid. There's no wiggle when it's locked. The handles are are nylon covered by a soft rubberized grip with checkering. The blade is short (2.28 in) and stout. The handle is approx 3.5 inches and it weighs 2.8 oz. The clip feels solid but it's removeable. There are thumb studs on both sides of the knife.

Does anyone else own this? What are your thoughts on this knife?

IMO, fatties are always worth $10.

Seriously though, a quick google shows that $10 is a great deal even when compared to online prices. If you like it, go for it.

Hi. New to the forum...

Not that I know what specific model the Fatty is, so I will not debate the value here. My question is more brand specific - I drive past the Gerber plant every day on the way to work, and have always had good will towards the company. The couple products I have are pretty good, medium price/mid-market products - I understand they are not Benchmade...

However, after spending some time browsing the board, I see few references to their products, and the ones I do see are generally negative. My gut tells me that anyone spending time on a knife forum is a serious collector/user and seeks out a top-market product, and y'all are not Gerber's target audience. That about sum it up???

By-the-by, thanks for the great info I have absorbed to date.

I've had one for almost a year now. I keep it in my car for odds and ends cutting. So far it's been a nice blade for the price.

welcome Rlist!
Not all of us are so hard on gerber, i have a gerber freeman folder, a gerber hinderer and a small assited opener all all well made and i enjoy them. Thats not to say they dont make some crap, but several of the cherished manufacturers have off shore lines they offer so one has to be careful and do a litttle research.
Cheers

I would not worry about it just use it and see how it holds out for your cutting tasks.
10 bucks doesn't buy a decent meal anyways...

That's basically what I thought when I saw it. $10 is nothing. I played with the knife for about 5 min before I bought it. It felt solid. The blade is stout. It reminds me alot of Chad Los Banos' Boker Subcom (which I have on order already along with the Trance)
