Hi all, anyone any experience of the Gerber Firestorm with Tanto blade. Any good? Worth having???........

Ummm...probably not. But if you buy it, just make sure you know what kind of steel the blade is.

I'd rather have the Cold Steel Gunsite with a 4- or 5-inch blade or a CRKT M16-14T. The latter is one of the best knives you can get for the money; the former is incredibly lightweight and strong. Both go for about what the Gerber goes for and you won't get crappy steel.

The CS has a blade made from VG-1; the CRKT uses AUS 8 with a titanium frame. There are better, more expensive steels out there, but these should do just fine. I tried a Google search to find out what steel the Firestorm used. The only answer I got was "Stainless Steel." Very bad sign. Oh, and the Cold Steel Voyager has a 4-inch with a plain blade if you want to skip the serrations.

A buddy of mine had a firestorm. Tough little knife. The blade was a little soft, but the knife was used as a thrower on multiple occasions and never had a single problem. The Carson flipper was great with the super slick bearings in the Firestorm.

Most blades that are secured to the frame by a screw of some sort come loose fairly easy. Even after using the knife as a thrower the blade to frame fit never had any play in it. The liner lock never lost it's composure. He got it about the same time I obtained a Cold Steel Zytel Ti-Lite. I only wish my knife had held up even half as good as his.

The only reason I never bought one was because the blade was 420 Stainless. However, his blade seemed to hold up to everything mine could, and if I could go back and trade him I would have.
