i got one of these for 20 dollars online. i have been edcing it for a couple weeks. just wanted to say its a pretty good deal, the knife is thick and heavy and uses a flipper to open. my only complaint was that the flipper action on mine required a bit more force than i liked, but its getting better as i break it in. hinderer designed it. i should have got the plain edge though.

here is a pic off the internet

Where did you order it from? This is the kind of knife I've been looking for to EDC at work (yeah, I like tantos for work...weird, huh?), and $20 is about all I want to spend on a knife that gets abused as much as my work knife does.

yes its a good edc knife that can be used and abused. i got mine off ebay, but i know some other online places have it for the same price. i think cabelas online store has them currently.

The Taiwanese Gerbers are fairly decent.

I have a couple of assisted openers that have some bladeplay that doesn't detract from overall ruggedness and usability.

The texturing pattern on the nylon scales (present on this knife as well) is my favorite.

I have had a Taiwanese made Firestorm for about 2 years and find it a pretty good solid EDC with no play in the blade, its not an AO though. Unfortunatly I didn't pay $20 for mine it was more like $90 here in Australia, most knives are a lot more expensive here if you buy from a store like I did.

This one looks vaguely reminiscent of a Hinderer design, and I noticed a $35 Gerber in REI the other day that looks almost exactly like a small XM-18. Does anyone know the story behind that, and if there are other cheap Hinderer designs in their lineup?

Also, is there a PE non-tanto version of this one available? It is a nice looking knife.

I have one. The quality is excellent! I'm going to sell it though. I like my P-Mil.

gerber has a series of hinderer designed knives, which all seem to be pretty decent.

there is the firestorm, the rescue knife, and gerber torch 1 and torch 2.

i want to get the torch 1 next, is the one you saw at REI ?

Hinderer designs are awesome. My EDC:

My latest Hinderer is the Gerber Torch 1. I got it off the Bay for $17 shipped. I read that Gerber's 440a was complete crap, so I figured I could test the edge retention:

After slicing up the pizza box, I tested the edge again. It sliced through this newspaper almost as easily as when I sliced the paper before the box. It also still shaved on all parts of the edge. Some parts still sharpened without touching the skin:

$17 for a knife that does it's job and I'm not afraid to lend or break? Seems like a deal to me.

yes i look forward to getting that one. ive seen them real cheap on some sites.

Another completely solid design by Gerber that can't perform, simply due to shitty materials, construction and quality control.
