Gerber/Fiskars: Back Paxe I vs. II

I bought the Gerber Back Paxe when it first came out. How does the model II differ? Were there problems with the first model? There wasn't some sort of recall, was there? I've used the heck out of mine (even felled a full grown aspen with it in an emergency) and never had a problem, but I can imagine losing the head on it could be disastrous.

dont know much about those particular "axes" but i would love to hear the story of felling a full aspen in an emergency.. what emergency calls for felling trees? sounds like my kind of emergency.

The full tale is too embarrassing and full of woe. Short version: Truck stuck in an icy, watery hole and no way to get tires onto solid ground; built a log scaffold and tire chocks to work ourselves out. A long cold day and night of work.
