Hey yall,

Been a while since I posted but I want to ask opinions on a simple one hand folding saw (like when the blade folds into the handle or slides back).

I have used untold different kinds, but the one that comes to mind is the gerber folding saws (exchange a blade) or the woodsman version whih slides into the handle.

Which one do you guys think are better? I wouldnt use it for anything too heavy, but the reviews at cabelas are not so hot about the locking mech of the folding saw. I have never had a problem with older ones though.

Are there any other options out there, maybe made in the USA and quality? Which places around town usually carry these blades? My pops is actually picking it up for some stuff he needs to cut, does HD or Lowes carry them?

I haven't used it long enough to form a solid opinion but so far the best I've found, by far, is this one by Fiskars. I buy them at Target for about $10. http://www.fiskars.com/webapp/wcs/s...alogId=10101&categoryId=10263&productId=10520

After trying several folding saws from a few different manufacturers, the first thing I now look for is the width of the spine. Generally speaking, the wider the spine the more durable the saw blade is and the more efficiently it cuts. I've bent a few blades with narrow spines rather quickly, although I normally only use folding saws to cut dead, dry, hard wood, most of it for firewood when camping. I didn't use any saws on green wood so can't comment on how well they perform on that.

Don't have the Gerber, but I do have a Sandvik saw. Cuts like a mother. I'm really surprised and pleased with how well it performs.

I have the Gerber saw ( the one with the retractable blade). It's small enough to fit in the pocket of a parka or cargo pants. It's very sharp and it seems to stay that way. I carry when I'm out with my quad.

The last time I used was to cut our Christmas tree down at a local tree farm. When I pulled it out of my pocket, the farmhand said it would never cut down a tree....

I paid about $10.00 for it and it was worth every penny. My saw is made in Finland so I'm pretty sure these are made by Fiskars (Gerbers Parent Co).
