I'm trying to find a Gerber Freeman Caper, Fixed-Blade, black coating, S30V steel, with any knid of scales. I've tried the gamet of online dealers - GP, New Graham, Knife Center, Knife Supply, Knife Stuff, Discount Cutlery, McKnight, etc etc. Even the Blade SHop!!!.

I can find the S30V in satin or brushed steel, but not black.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Realizing I'm not much help...I've googled a half dozen stores and even went on the Gerber site, no black coated Freeman around. You sure you've seen one black coated???

Yes. I handled it the other day. My boss had one that was a gift to him. The black coating is the nicest I've seen on a knife. The scales were a dark wood, and I'm unsure what kind. The scales are unimportant though, I'm interested in black-coated S30V.

Also, thanks for searching. I did the same thing last night - googled the knife. I went to all the internet site including gerbergear, gerbertools, and a couple of other gerber**** sites.

Ijust picked up a Gerber Yari 2 from Sportsman's Warehouse...black coated S30V...not what you'd call an ideal hunting/skinning knife...BUT it was half off...maybe this could fill the bill?

If this is the knife is the knife you're looking for click on the link below... I was just checking these knives out at the Cabela's store in Ft. Worth last week. Great looking knife at a reasonable price.

I was just about to say Cabela's too . I saw that knife there in the Buda store (16 miles south of Austin,TX) about two weeks ago (spring break). Great looking knife and a reasonable price too if I remember.

Gerber does do nice work. I wish they would bring back the Flayer, best skinning knife I have ever used, would love to get some to pass out as gifts. With the Cat's Tongue handle this knife has never slipped in my hand even when covered in blood.
