I visited my sister and her husband in The Blue Ridge/Smoky Mtns. area of NC 2 years ago. He inherited a log cabin built by one of his ancestors in 1865. An incredibly beautiful place. In fact I was so taken I bought a Ltd Edition Victorinox SD with a John Muir quote on one side sayind "The mountains are calling" and the flip side "And I must go". But I digress, he gave me 2 knives he found when they moved in, a late 1960s Case Trapper 5265 SAB which was someone's LONG time go to knife and a Gerber Freeman with wood scales, I can see the Gerber logo on the blade (faintly), but there is no mark for where it was made. Does anyone know if these were ever made in the USA? #2 - Is it true that all imported knives have to have the country of origin on them? Thanks guys, my first post!

About 6 years ago or so they had a s30v version being made in the US. Not sure if they were making the rest of them in the US at the same time.

It's a pretty safe bet if they made it in the US they would mark it as such.

I think you are right. I had this exact knife about 10 - 12 years ago and was bought as a beater at the suggestion of a friend of mine that used his at the coast as a professional fisherman. The only thing you need to watch for on that knife is the bolts holding he scales on are steel, and they will rust without some amount of care.

It was a great knife (surprisingly!) and it held and edge pretty well and was very, very sturdy. I used it until I wore out the sheath and then gifted it to someone that really liked the knife. He still has it, has a pouch sheath for it, and loves it.

From the looks, your knife is AUS8 model made in China. When I bought mine, the only markings and information were on the box. The blade came with a faintly etched "sword in the stone" logo from Gerber, and Gerber's name.

Thanks. It sounds exactly like mine. It is a very solid knife. I have seen one on eBay a couple of days ago with wood scales and it did say "Knife made in Taiwan" "Sheath made in China". Thanks for the info on the screws. That is something a fisherman would discover pretty quickly!
