The buck's gut hook appears to be more functional and if I'm not mistaken they are stamped by BOS!? But the bucks are more expensive, like 110$ vs gerber's 70$, and the buck appears to have a taller blade!?

Id go with the Buck. Better looking knife to me and S30v with Bos developed heat treat is just a plus. Buck alpha is just a classic design :D

If that is the choice - I would go with Gerber. Looks much better. With FFG - that looks like a winner to me.

I have not tried Gerber's S30V, so I don't know how good their heat treat is. I have tried Spyderco, Buck, and Benchmade S30V. The Paul Bos heat treat that Buck uses for their S30V is the standard by which I judge all others.

The hollow grind used by Buck is superb for skinning and slicing. The cutting performance is top notch.

That being said, I've never had any use for a gut hook on my hunting knives. Are you sure you want one?

Just last night I was thinking about a gut hook and how i felt they were kind of useless and never really hear about anyone using one, but i would love some pics of someone using one to their advantage... anywho this was my first knife i bought myself, a year ago this month - it came really really sharp - my girlfriend loves it and its her favorite knife of mine - though i have barely used it, cut a few tomatoes with it (did a helluva job) and am looking to sell mine.. great knife tho IMO and i think it looks way better than the buck
