I really like this knife http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?id=0027308516499a&navCount=10&podId=0027308516499&parentId=cat20891&masterpathid=&navAction=jump&cmCat=MainCatcat20712-cat20891&catalogCode=XH&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat20891&hasJS=t
I know its by gerber but, Its made in the u.s, Its S30V which is something I always wanted to try. The looks are awsome, perfect blend of traditional and modern. I have never had a problem with the gator folders. Its the perfect knife that iv been looking for for years and the reviews are all very positive. Has anyone tried them? Should I get it?

i have the regular freeman and no complaints, i eyed this one at cabellas but it was pricey.
You like what you like dont let others opinions influence you too much:)
not all gerbers are crap.
Get it and use it:)
good luck

I have one, I like it. No blade play, pretty big, but not very. The safety button and glass breaker are also +

Glass breaker? Safety button?

Maybe the Hinderer Rescue is being confused here - link works for me.

I'm talking about the auto, it is also Freeman design .
I didn't check the link :)

The whole reason I joined blade forums is so I wouldnt buy crappy stuff. I like it alot I just want to know if it is worth it or not.

i know neither do i, but gerber takes a beating on the boards right or wrong, and i merely wanted to offer encouragement if ya did want it.
As i stated i like my gerber freeman alot. I might make the leap in logic that the S30V made in the USA would be equal if not better on fit and finish than the standard freeman. The S30V comes with a leather sheath (always nice) I liked the knife and loved the look of the S30V just too rich for me. Honestly i dont think it would be crappy, but crap is in the eye of the beholder. I have 3 gerbers all foreign made though, but they are quality knives (Freeman Folder, Hinderer Rescue and a little Assisted Opener)

If your really leary about gerber than try Buck the Alpha series, i have an alpha dorado folder with rosewood scales that is awesome, they have i believe 3 or 4 models in various finishes and if ya look around the net with various steels.
all the best

I have the drop point fixed blade, also from Cabela's. I like it enough that I am considering getting the folder that you are asking about.

well right now im battling between a cabelas stag AG 110 and this one.
decisions decisions decisiones

I say! I love my multitool, and I plan on retiring it to a safe place soon, replace it with a new one (the new multitools have a much thicker blade, and I want the carbide cutters) and I've tried 5 different leathermen, gerber beats em all. On the carry case it says "Gerber Legendary Blades" and I've found no reason to deny their claim. (OK, it could hold an edge better, but I use almost all the tools equally [except the lanyard hole thinger, wtf is that for?])

I picked that knife up a year or so ago and love it, I actually use it more than several Benchmades and Spydercos I have. It is very solid yet not too large, smooth action with good blade geometry, very nice blade coating (which I usually don't like and a great cocobolo handle! This model has a solid lockup, and being able to adjust the liner lock's point of contact was a unique feature! Oh, and the leather sheath was one of the nicer ones I've seen!

Can you please elaborate on what this means?
thanks
Sure, that was a little confusing. On both sides of the stop pin are two torx screws, one controls how far in (towards the opposite handle) the liner lock will move once the blade is open, so that you can control and adjust the area of contact with the tang as the liner lock wears down over time. The other screw tightens to keep the liner lock from over-extending, serving the same function as on some of the CRKT liner locks. I hope this is more clear.

I prefer the lockback classic - the Buck 110, also available as the 'Alaskan Guide 110' from Cabela's at $65 in S30V. Mine is a keeper - maybe even sharper than the standard 110, but known more for it's edge retention. Actually, you have to go a ways to beat a $26 Wally World Buck 110 - their heat treatment is legendary. Made in the USA, of course. I have the AG110 and two custom 110s from Buck - one in BG-42 and one in tear drop Damascus. When I need a 110, I grab a 'regular' one in 420HC - hard to beat.

I did recently get a big buck Buck liner-lock - a #419 folding Kalinga Pro in S30V. While it's MSRP is $150, you should be able to find it in the $100 range now that their deliveries have had time to catch up with the initial demand. In it's sheath it is a pocket full, and an acquired taste, as to style. Here is a picture of the fixed K-P, #408, the #419, and a polished '07 Collector Tin special from this fall at Wally World ($30) - all made in the USA:

Damn that kalinga would send the sheeple running ;). It looks scary (in a beutifull kind of way though ) I really dont want to attract uneccesary attention from them saying a 14 year old shouldnt be carrying a weapon. ;)
Honestly the lengths I go to keep these guys happy. sheesh.
