Hey, I'm thinking about buying a Gerber Gator drop point. My uncle has the clip point. He never uses is and it's REALLY dull, but it has what seems like a very nice lock up and very nice egro. I know some of you are anti-gerber, but it's made is the USA and use 154cm.

It's around 35-40 in a walk in store, do you guys think I should go for it?

Or, has this knife failed on you? I'd be doing light batoning (yeah, I know) and other bushcrafty things.

Let me know what you think. Thanks.

I have a gator and it came pretty sharp. When ever i go camping that's all i use is that knife that thing takes a beating. Lock never failed always locks up nice its pretty light and very ergonomic. Awesome utility blade IMO

My co-worker has an USA made gator.. Drop point perhaps. not sure.. But it is semi serrated... 2 years of no sharpening and everyday use and it still cuts just fine... Even the serrations.. I couldn't believe it myself... Get one..

I think the USA Made Gator with 154CM at about $35 bucks is an excellent deal.

I have one - very sharp out of the box with nice grinds and a tight lockup.
Bought it about 3 years ago.

It ended up in a drawer, but only because the handle was too wide for comfortable pocket carry.

Also, because of the Kraton-on-Zytel construction, I wouldn't feel comfortable with it as a bushcraft knife. YMMV.

I agree, it seems like a good deal. Some Gerbers are hard to sharpen, but once you break the factory edge, you can get them very sharp.

Once the factory edge gets dull a lot of people have problems sharpening them.

It seems like the factory edge is about 30 degrees, but it takes some time to get them to 15-20 degrees.

Mine came with a sheath and no lanyard hole. But yea make sure its the USA made one because the china one sucks and rusts like the next day. I believe the USA one will say ONTARIO on the blade right above the handle in the open position. But yea great knife just tuff for EDC because of wide handle. But it wont let you down

Do they really make them in 154CM? All the ones I've ever seen and owned were 420HC

Gerber knew what they were doing whet they let this one out. Ergonomic and sharp as s#!t. This one has never seen much action but my old Gator saw plenty of field use. I ended up giving it away to hot little geologist on a site we were staking bore holes. I didn't even know that she was staying in the same motel until later. Whoa, that Gator sure was worth it!

I love the Ergos of this knife, love the Handle all way around.

IF you can find on MARKED on the blade as 154-CM for a good price I would say Buy It. However, I would NOT recommend buying one in 420HC - just not worth it.

I am embarrassed to admit it, but I bought one of these suckers after seeing it on Man vs. Wild. Its a decent enough knife, and not spendy. Not much to dislike about it, assuming you can deal with the lack of a pocket clip.

I'm not the biggest Gerber fan, but my brother has carried one of those Gators for years and he likes it.

I'm not a gerber fan at all, but I do have an old non-154cm gator and still like it a lot. The USA made 154cm gators are the only gerbers I'd consider buying anymore.

I'd have this knife on a back back strap. I saw grylls using one and my uncles has a tight lock up. Thanks for the input, gonna get it soon when I can score a trip to Sportman's....
