I have a couple Gator's with 154CM steel that really performs well. Does anyone know what steel they use in the fixed blade. I know Cabelas has one in s30 but I don't know what Gerber's standard steel in that knife is. Thanks.

That would be good to know too. Ironically I just found my old Gerber Gator in my truck tonight. Combo blade.
Has,

PORTLAND, OR
USA

on the blade and,

GERBER
650

on the other side.

My better half just gave me this one for Christmas http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/t...parentType=index&indexId=cat601233&hasJS=true

S30V Blade that is very sharp right out of the box.
I wasn't sure about the blade design at first (not being a fan of gut-hooks), but after playing around with it a bit I think it has grown on me already. The sweep in the front part of the blade should be perfect for skinning a deer while overall not to bulky for more delicate tasks.

I see that Cabelas has it with or without the guthook. You might have to try both.:D

I think you're right ! :D

The other thing that took me a second to realize was the flat grind on the guthook blades... looked a little rough at first until it dawned on me.
Ok... sometimes I'M not the sharpest tool in the drawer either. LOL
