Id figured that I'd ask, I personally like Gerber I like their designs, their toughness, just in general. What's your opinion?

I love my Mark I boot knife (c. 1985). I've had it since I was eight. It is the knife I've had the longest and I will never part with it.

I can't say I am interested in anything they have in production now.

Nice! :) I got one in 1982, for my 21st birthday, even cut my cake with it!

This is the most recent Gerber I own, The Patriot, got sent to me for review around 1993. Wouldn't touch them with a barge-pole now.

Good designs, bad execution.
I took all of my Gerber stuff out of my knife collection.
SO many better knives to obtain, even in the same price range.

I think it's important to buy what interests you.
I bought a Profile for one of my sons about a year ago. He's used it pretty good. Dulls quick, sharpens up quick.
If you stick around, if knives interest you, and you are here to learn, you will buy knives that are expensive, and buy knives that are inexpensive, but you will have a lot better understanding *what* you are buying because of the info you can get here on bladeforums.

I got a Gerber Big Rock that I like a lot. My general purpose camp knife ATM. Very comfortable handle, full tang, and was only $20. Steel ain't that great, but sharpens up fast and easy. The only other Gerber's I have owned have been junk, and a lot of them are $50-$75, and I can get pretty good knives elsewhere at that price.

The knives and tools that are made in Portland, Oregon is pretty good in my opinion. Well built and tough in my experience. I dont have any experience with their Chinese stuff.

I only wish they'd put some better steel on their knives, but thats cause im a steel snob. That being said, the steel they use nowadays is perfectly capable of cutting. Several thousand Gerber-using hunters, fishermens and general outdoor people can attest to that.

I'm good with Gerber, and this its fine for most folks. The Gerber EZ-Out Jr. was my first real knife a long time ago and it got me addicted. We tend to forget that most of us could make it through the day just fine with nothing but a Gerber knife.

I generally have a pretty low opinion of gerber, but they have put out some decent stuff.

I've been really impressed with my Big Rock hunter, as well as my Yari 2, for what I paid for them. I've been really unimpressed with everything else I've bought from gerber (Mark 2, Guardian, Multi-tools...), though.

Good post, powernoodle.
Gerber is putting out some nice knives. I have a Remix Tanto folder that I carry instead of my CQC7. $30.
