Hi,

I was looking at boot knives and ran into a little Gerber Guardian Backup used. Are they any good? Found one with a rubber grip and one witha metal grip. I heard the metal grip knives were better...
But the rubber grip knife is only $20....

Are there any threads about these little knives on the forums? For some reason I can not search these forums.
Thanks,

Rich

Others have said the Smith and Wesson HRT is as good as the Gerber if not better for less money.

Small daggers are really not practical but they do look cool.

Here's an old post about the Guardian: post

The metal-handled ones looked nicer. I believe metal handle = satin blade and rubberized handle = black teflon coating. However, the metal (older) ones had a bad sheath (non-locking), while the rubberized (new) ones had a better sheath (adjustable tension, but rattles). The dimensions are the same, and there's not much handle to hold on to.

IMO the Camillus boot knive would just about be the same.
The larger one will have more handle to hold on, and get the Kydex sheath. I have both and it is possible for you to accidently put a hole on the leather version. The edge needs work, but for a very cheap dagger type blade, so be it.
Also you have a bit more guard on the camillus version, and theoretically, it's harder for your hand to slip up on the Camillus than the Gerber.
