Gerber Hinder CLS, anyone got one??

I didn't even know they still made 440A knives, but for combat purposes, which this is advertised for, 440A is fine. You'll only need it once.

At least they identified the steel on that knife, unlike some others they make.

Despite all of the bashing that goes on here, Gerber does make some (not all) decent knives. I don't know if this is one of them, but I'd avoid it just on the basis of the partial serrations, they're annoying.

"The multi-functional, award winning design features a combination 440A stainless steel fine and serrated blade with sharpened tip and built-in seat belt cutter, window punch and oxygen tank wrench."

sharpened tip !?!? .. wow, I want knife with sharpened tip and oxygen tank wrench

I actually have one...Being an EMT as well as sailor, I find the oxygen wrench/window punch handy...afterall, it is called the Combat Life Saver. The swing out line cutter is interesting but I find it almost useless. The big thumb studs are awesome in cold weather/wearing gloves and so is the lever for the liner lock. The one thing I do hate is the finger coil. It doesn't fit my hand. But for less than 60 bucks, it is perfect for my EMT kit. I wouldn't mind if it got lost or contaminated; I would just replace it. I don't mind the serrations either as in an emergency, it is nice to have the saw option; you never know what you are going to have to cut and if you ruin it hacking through, let say, some thin aluminum or something, who cares, right? It is decently built and mine has no blade play whatsoever. So, my opinion is that it is fairly cheap, does it's job and you can throw it in an e-kit without worrying about losing it or having to throw away an expensive knife at the scene of an emergency. After all, Mr. Hinderer designed it and, well, he was a firefighter so I think he knew what he was doing. I wouldn't necessary bash options on a knife that are actually useful for what the knife was designed to do. I wouldn't recommend Gerbers in general but in this particular case it fits the bill.
