Was poking around for a low cost EDC and came across the Gerber Icon which looked visually appealing to me. After looking at various websites/reviews/videos/and ebay and came across 2 different types of the same knife. Didnt notice it at first glance but then after looking at ricasso/plunge line area (one straight and one curved a little) and the pivot screw on the one side (not sure if that is just a cover for the screw or maybe like an O Nut) extensively, and also having 2 different weights, I was wondering if there was a variation of this knife made or perhaps is one of the 2 counterfeit?

Gerber website wasn't much help as they showed another variation with silver screws/white logo (yet follows the design model of the knife on the left side of the picture but has the same weight of the one on the right (unless different websites got some weights wrong)) and then another one with a different thumbstud (small indentation in the middle of it)

I'd like to think that myself being such a low cost knife but I've see knockoff's of $15 Kershaws out there. Not an expert in Chinese economics but given that they could probably mass produce and ship these things for pennies on the dollar, there is still a lot of profit to be made on them in volume.

Why not go to a store. Provided that you're in the US pretty much any place that sells knives sells Gerbers.

If they did, it might be a case of the K/O actually being a better knife. :D

Not to mention that if a knife costs $15 and it's made by Kershaw it's probably made in China anyway. I really wouldn't worry about it and use it.

Gerber~~~ but true in that respect. I was just also trying to improve my knowledge of counterfeits as well even if its it's only a $15 knife.

With Chinese knives, variations like that are not uncommon - which side they screwed the pillar or thumbstud on, etc. As to specs, website retailers, even big ones, post mistakes all the time be it weights or blade-steel or handle material, etc. (e.g. the Zancudo was being listed by some as having a G10 scale when it was really Zytel).

If you want to be sure you're buying an authorized version, buy from a reputable dealer. Chances are that all variations were made in the same factory by the same people anyway, it's simply a matter of whether that particular knife met QC standards (if they exist) and was cleared for sale with profits going to Gerber. *shrug*

First try, but I'm curious about multiples logos used by Gerber. Just bought two tridents which just had "GERBER" stamped on blade. Their catolog has a different style, as well as Amazon and Ebay. Searching thru various sites I have found 4 different logos styles used on same Silver Trident. Concerned about counterfeits and quality control standards being used. Does anyone have clue about this. John at Gerber was clueless. If I can't determine facts I need to move to another brand after 35 years. Still love my BMF though.

Different production years may have different logos.

Thanks, suspect it may be a grade code, but unable to verify. Bought 2 tridents and a Ka-bar. The edge on the Tridents was pitiful and Ka-bar shaving the hair off my arm. Think the Tridents are going back because I like to get the product pictured. Sort of like buying a GMC truck and getting a chevy. We know they are both the same but want the higher grade. That may be what Gerber is doing with "GERBER" on some Tridents and the sword logo on others.
