Picked up a set of Gerber Knives and need some help with an idea on when they were made, value etc. It is a 2 knife set, the larger knife has I think it is "maximum" or "Magnum" on the handle, the smaller has "pixie" on the handle. Both are in close to new shape, the handles are metal, textured, and green in color. The belt sheath is open topped, black leather, the smaller knife fits in an open top sheath attached to the larger one. The sheath and both knives have Gerber on them and the Gerber stamp. Any help appreciated.

This probably wont be to much help, but its what I found. I have an old 'American Blade' magazine from October 1975. There is an ad in it for a Gerber Shorty and Pixie. The steel description just says 'high speed tool steel' and the handles are listed as Armorhide. In 1975 the price is listed as 27.50.

That sounds about right - the mid=70s gerber put out a combination deal -the only problem is that the steel is hardened too much - about 60-62 rockwell and is a real bear to sharpen and will occasionally flake out .. otherwise they are decent knives.
