Hello this is my review of the Gerber instant knife first of all I'll give you the specs on the blade then I'll cut the review into a few categories

Blade Length: 3.18"
Closed Length: 4.57"
Overall Length: 7.75"
Weight: 4.01 oz.
Steel Type: 7cr17mov
Price: $40

Handle: 10/10
The g10 is great is solid, grippy and attractive. the steel liners give it sofe stability and the steel comes up to form a secure blade stop

Blade shape: 10/10
I absolutely love this blade it looks mean and in charge without being "tacticool" and sacrificing function. Great for everyday tasks like opening packages and boxes but still good for extreme situations

Blade steel: 8/10
Now that we know what it is we can't complain about that but honestly in my opinion... It's not that bad. Seriously, it holds an edge for a decent time. It's not amazing but it's still a name brand quality steel. I like to keep my blades razor sharp so I end up sharpening it every couple days but I never find it to be dull. Honestly it's not a problem with me because it takes a razors edge after just a few passes though the fine side of my pocket pal.

Lock: 10/10
This thing locks tighter than fort knox. I never doubt it will stay I place for me.

Deployment: 8/10
It deploys with authority and power. Takes a reasonable push to start but for a knife with no safety.... I'll take a little push over the alternative. My only complaint with the deployment of the knife is the sound... It sounds kind of hollow. When I open a kershaw, or a sog. It's still a resounding click but this one clicks with a bit more treble than I'm used to. Also it is REALLY loud! Like wow! I used to carry a sog flash 1 to work and when I had my ear plugs in mixed with the sound of everything I couldn't hear it. This one I hear, I hear this one very well.

Pocket clip: 8/10
Good feel, good low profile, just wish it was tip up carry. Not that big a deal though.

Coating: 6/10
The coating has already worn completely off of some spots. Granted I have been hard on it and it doesn't bother me but still thought it should be mentioned.

Looks: 10/10
I'll be honest I think this knife is absolutely beautiful. The cutouts look great on it, the blade is probably the coolest looking one I've ever seen, and honestly g10 is just cool looking. Can deny it.

Carry ability: 9/10
The weight is low but it still has some mass to it. I'll be honest I like really heavy knives but I think this I about average for most people. I do have a complaint though, I keep my change in same pocket ad my knife so I prefer a closed back to keep the change from getting caught in the knife. Really minor annoyance though.

Overall: 9/10
I legitimately think this is one of the best AO knives to can buy for EDC. It's not heavy. It sits comfortably. And I can not enunciated how much I love the shape of the blade! Biggest thing I wish they would change is putting an closed back on it so I don't shoot a dime when I draw the blade.

I purchased one a week ago as part of a package that included the Gerber Kurhki Machete, both for $40.
The knife was a bit unsmooth in it's opening at first.
The leaf spring thing that thrusts out the blade seemed to be coated and I thought that the more I opened it, the more "polished" the area of that spring that contacts the blade seemed to get.
After an evening of "knifesturbating" with it, it is now very smooth opening.
Used it as EDC for a few days now and like it.
Great deal for the $$.

I just gave that knife to my boss, Gerber has kicked it up to being Ok. After a few weeks of light to medium use it has bad bladeplay with the plunge lock, however the steel takes an amazing edge and the assist almost kicks out of your hand. Ergos are pretty darn good too.

After reading a few of these reviews and watching the cool commercial, I thought I would at least look at the knife while at wally world. I had the guy let me look at a new in the box one vs the one in the case. While I would not buy this knife due to the tip down carry only, I was taken back by a few things. The feel was nice and the blade shape was very pleasing, but when I went to deploy the blade, it was very difficult to kick out, and the blade was already touching the left side of the handle when in the closed position. I will stick with the Cryo for that price range. More reliable in all aspects, and better build quality. Gerber almost has it right. If they listen to the knife nuts like us, they may be seeing more support around here, but for now, I just can't get on the bus.
