What are you folk's opinions on the Gerber International knives (especially the 3.0, the 3.5, and the Air RangerI and II)?

Thanks,
Allen.

There was a thread a couple of months back on the Air Ranger series. You might want to do a search. I think the reactions were quite positive.

I only have experience with the small Air Ranger, but I can tell you that it is very nice knife for the price. Some people knock the Made in Taiwan aspect of these knives, but a Taiwanese assembly machine can do just as good a job as a domestic one, and apparently a lot cheaper.

The Air Ranger gets my vote for best knife around $40 that I know of. It just edges out the Kershaw Vapor in the "solid blade for peanuts" category. I like the checkered aluminum handle, which is confortable and grippy. Nothing fancy or goofy on this knife, nobody trying to reinvent the wheel. Just a great handle, a good blade shape, and a very solid liner lock; all made with quality materials.

There is a new smaller International called the LTR which looks pretty cool.

Allen, I have a Gerber AR 3.0, bead blast finish which I picked up at a K-Mart. Very good workmanship for the the price (just under $30 US). The last time I checked, Walmart stores carry them in the black teflon finish only, but the telfon coating doesn't last very long. The workmanship is like that of CRKT knives, very well made at an economical price.

Thanks guys.
The Air Rangers look really neat and they come in different colors too.

Always looking for that next knife,
Allen.

I have had the SLG 3.25, the AR 3.0, and Air Rangers.

They are all nice but The Air Ranger is hard to beat for the money. I have picked up the large model as cheap as $38 on ebay new! It is a VERY nice knife for the money!!! (The SLG 3.25 is a great knife with ats-34 and g-10 for about $38 too from D and R sports online.)

AR 3.00 is areally well made little knife but the all black version I have has a pretty easily damaged finish. (handle and blade) anyone else have this problem?

All of Gerber's International series knives IMO are on par with CRKT quality. Very good fit and finish, smooth action, even and clean grinds, all with the bang-for-the-buck factor. I'm especially impressed with the quality of the SL (I think...it's the slender carbon fiber one). I have an Air Ranger and have used it some, great EDC. Lightweight, easy to open, easy to close, and rides very well in the pocket. The checkered texturing on the aluminum scales make the knife have the "grip you back" quality without being too aggressive.
