Everyone beware!!!!!!

i just received some of the new and not improved, gerber screwed up, infinity ultras. now don't get me wrong, i have a bit of gerber products (no knives though) and am fairly pleased with it all, but this bastardization of such a good light has really made me mad.

what's wrong?, you may ask. first, the led is the poorest i have ever seen. funky yellow streaks, dark spots and no nice circular center. it is even set at an angle creating an oblong disk on a wall. the most depressing thing is there now seems to be a tail switch, shaped like the sonic. how this could be better, i do not have a clue. finally, the metal almost feels like plastic, not the old indestructable al, and it's made in china.

the sonic, on the other hand, is still made in the usa and seems to be unchanged. but, that will probably change, i expect.

so the moral is. if you have ever planned to get an infinity ultra, hurry and check. i did just get off the phone with my wholesaler and got his last 3 old style ultras but with a gerber name. so, they are out there, but for how long?

oh man... that sucks. I'll pick up a few old ones. Somehow, I knew that everything Fiskars touched would go down the drain. Look what happened to Gerber. The MkI and MkII were great

Sorry to hear that. Luckily, I have my stockpile complete. I was really hoping that Gerber/Infinity would have stayed a decent company especially now that Arc is gone. :(

I've already got my CMGs. I'll pick up a new Gerber once it hits Ebay at cheep pricing, which from the sounds of the quality shouldn't take too long. .

Hmm, that really sux.

Off to the sporting goods store to see if they still ahve the old CMG's.

That's bad news.
www.countycomm.com has the Ultra-G for $18 (no more CPF special on this one, apparently). I'm on my third one. Gave away the first two I had. Ordered two more last night. Maybe I should get more for little Christmas gifts. Great "stocking stuffer". I had planned to buy a bunch of Arc AAAs. Since that isn't going to happen, I figured to buy some colored Ultras for gifts. Now that doesn't sound like such a great idea.
Perhaps I'll stock up on Ultra-Gs, and hope everybody likes green:)

The Infinity Ultra is still available at onestopknifeshop.com. It's a good place to shop.

There has been a fair amount of discussion (with pics) on the old vs new Infinity on CPF in this thread.

Thanks for the link. I haven't been frequenting CPF lately-this place costs me enough money:p
The more I read about it, the more it looks like some genius engineers took a sound design, and made it worse in every possible way.
So it's heavier, bulkier (thicker on the front end), longer, harder to operate, and arguably less reliable, as the tail switch requires a spring.
Everything you could want in a new and improved, upgraded pocket light.
Way to go Gerber. You retards.

So who all is gonna rush out and pick up the old style now?? I might see if I can find some. .

I'm not surprised this has happened. Gerber quality went down hill when the company was sold to Fiskars. They should have stuck to making scissors.

I still have two CMG Infinity Ultras and when Gerber took over CMG I didn't really take any interest in the Gerber Infinities, but I take it they are no longer made in the USA?

The reason I ask is because I picked up a Gerber LX3.0 and noticed it was made in China. I really like the LX3 and think it's a great LED light for the money, but I was curious about the Infinities.

Have you been able to exchange it for another? I can't believe all of Gerber's Infinities could be like that. I think they did a good job with the LX3.0 (even though it's a bit long), but I like that it runs on AA batteries. The only disappointment I've had with a Gerber flashlight was with the Nautilus. Nice idea, but a flawed design. They should have incorporated an on/off sliding switch to keep the LED light from accidentally coming on when using the knife.

cs,

yup, sent them back and had the guy look in the warehouse. found three old style infinity ultras, so i took them all. still not enough for the xmas presents i was planning on. oh well, maybe give inova x1's.

The Countycomm ones were better than the others anyway... MilSpec finish that you could not scratch and a LITTLE brighter than the regular Ultras.

Just got my 2 Ultra-Gs. Didn't see it mentioned on the site, but they now come with a clip and lanyard.

I only wished that I had picked up a few extra ARC AAA's when I had the chance  DOH!
