Hello, I recently found this site and while I won't claim to be a knife afficianado I've carried one most my adult life and have a small "collection" of the different knifes SOG and Gerber make. I have been looking around this forum for a little while before I finally joined and basicaly joined because I wanted to know other members opinions about Gerber and SOG knifes. I'm active duty Army and can pick them up at the Post Exchange (BX/PX) at a decent price.....but are they worth it? Some of the Gerber knifes I own are the Covert, Covert mini, 06 FAST, Paraframe II
any advice or info would be great.
Thanks in advance
Bradley

Welcome! I have no advice, as I'm fairly new, but if it were me, I'd check the manufacturers forums. There's also a SOG specific sub in there somewhere section, you could check there as well. Happy hunting.

Welcome to the forums!

Personally, I'm not a fan of the Para-Frame because you can easily slip a finger in there when closing it (I'm sharpening one for a friend and holy crap once it's truly sharp, it's like a finger guillotine).

I think overall though Gerber knives are better than no-name gas-station type knives, but there are plenty of better deals out there where you can upgrade quality/materials/fit-finish/etc. for around the same price or spend a little more and get a significant upgrade.

There's a ton of sellers on this site that are sponsors - check 'em out and you'll find some pretty amazing deals on knives that cost around what the Gerber and SOG knives cost.

Check out Columbia River Knife and Tool, Kershaw, Benchmade (their HK and Harley Davidson line is less expensive than their other knives), and Spyderco (they have a value line as well as the Byrd brand that are both good).

At the PX you'll get what you pay for. I would generally favor Sog over Gerber but your wallet will probably do the voting.
