Hey guys! I've been out of the game for a while and I was wondering if you could help me determine the value of a couple of my Gerber knives. I have a 20th Anniversary MK II 1 of 5000 untouched in the box as well as a 9" BMF also new in box. I'm not sure if I'm going to keep them or sell them but I'd like to know aprox what their worth. I'm also curious as to why Gerber discontinued most of their survival line.

Hi Ghansel98,

The Gerber BMF in NIB condition tends to go in the $175 to 225 range most of the time. I really have no clue as to the Gerber MarkII, but they have been rather Hot in recent years(may be try an Ebay search):).

As to why they discontinued much of their survival line, while my guess is that they filled to small of a niche to contiue production(Gerber seems to be much more outdoor oriented with their product line now). I've also read that much of the old product line was very expensive to produce, so that might be part of the answer also.

HTH:D:).

I believe they were purchased by/merged with Fiskars, a Finnish company whose claim to fame had been good tools (axes, scissors, billhooks, work knives). I assume the marketing department went thru the usual post merger clusterflock and their survival knives were one of the victims. At any rate, Gerber knives are again appearing on my radar. Just ordered a new Gerber survival blade, a Yari last week, in fact.

what would a used '68 model be worth, still w/original sheath? i got it new in '69, still have the sales slip, $39.95 plus tax, a lot of $$ in those days, but have gotten 30+ years of service out of it, and its still quite servicable minus a few scratches/scuffs/etc. it was cutting edge in its day, still not a bad choice for some things imho.

i used mine many times in field exercises/etc in the army, used for cutting food, wire, wood, plug chewing tobacco, many things, too many to mention all, worked pretty darned good too, never picked my teeth w/it though lol - wasnt a bad field knife, once ya got used to the double edge - saw teeth not too great though, but i dont think they were meant to cut wood though anyway........

a great classic knife

I remember the merge with Fiskars, that was quite a few years ago. I bet political pressure had something to do with the decision as well as sales.

As for the MK II I have a modern (80's) version of the knife and it has the serrations. The 20th Anniversary knive has no serrations. It has a very distinctive Wasp waisted blade that's canted at an angle to the handle. Very interesting knife I've had in my collection since I bought it new in 86. I'd be interested in selling it but not until I know what it's worth. Thanks for everyone who responded!!!!

Hi SIFU1A,

Your best bet is to check Ebay. There really hot right now, and it is very hard to narrow down a price on them.

Unfortunately there are none on EBAY at the moment. I'll keep my eyes open for now and wait to see what they are worth. I'd hate to sell it then find out it was worth double....:-)

I don't know if this'll work, but try clicking here. If it doesn't work, all it was was a search I ran in eBay for already completed "Gerber Mark II Anniversary" and these are the ones that popped up. I didn't really look at them all but prices go up to $306.99--keep in mind that these are only the auctions that ended in May '02.

I was shoping for MK II for quit a while (never had money, so ended up with Parker replica :)

anyways. 20'th aniversary MK II going from 250$ and up. Usualy end up about 300. maybe a little bit less.

(35'th anyversary MK II is few buck cheaper)

Soeone was asking about used older MKII price depends mainly on year. If you have orginal sheath and sharpening stone (if I remember right early models had one price depending on condition may go from sub 100$ to.. I saw one gone for 270$)

All this info from e-bay september 2001 - may 2002

I want to thanks everyone for their input. I would never have thought to look for closed auctions to find the knife. Now that I know the value I can decide if I want to sell it. I was a bit surprised when I read the description on one of them. I too bought my MK II 20th at the BX in 1986. I didn't know a 35th version was produced. I bet they are left overs from the 20th run though. I also have a standard MK II that came with the leather sheath. I was visiting my sister in Portland and went to the factory to see it adn was able to talk them into selling me a cordura sheath for it. I sure wish I had talked them into a tour of the plant as well!!
Thanks again everyone!! If any one out there is interested in a 20th Anniversay MK II please e-mail me offline and I'll send you a digital pic of mine. Ghansel98@aol.com
