A friend sent me one of the Gerber 3 LED light since I am on my way to play in the big sandbox. I forget the name of it but I think it is the "trio". It kind of reminds me of the Maglite MiniMag, no switch you have to rotate the tailcap. It seems to be well made.

Has anyone had any problems with this unit? I realize that it is not water proof but that is not an issue(for the present)

Personal experience with Gerber products says it should be pretty good. I stiil carry a Gerber Guardian I got in the early 80s sometimes.

What do you think?

Gerber took ownership of CMG and now have their lights manfactured overseas. I believe it is China. Reports coming back from some owners/ users concerning their current Infinity models were a bit unfavorable, citing functioning and finished products problems. Not sure about your particular model. Go to www.candlepowerforums.com for a wealth of information.

The Infinity issue never needed to happen, but whatever works out for Gerber is what they're going to do. Let's say that I'm stocking up on them as we speak. .

But back to the Trio. You can read up on it here. It isn't 100% waterproof, but I'd trust it to a dunk in a puddle or something. Don't go swimming with it or anything, but the rain and stuff shouldn't hurt it any. .

I was disgusted with the CMG Reactor, but I have a Gerber Task Light that I quite like. It's a neat little guy.

Will, your Gerber light is indeed called the "Trio."

Gerber took over CMG Equipment some time ago and began releasing CMG's lights with the Gerber logo. Models like the Bonfire, Reactor, Reactor 3, O-4, Sonic, Infinity and Infinity Ultra were CMG originals. Gerber, for reasons unknown, decided to re-design the Infinities by adding a tailcap, giving them a matte anodized finish and making them in China.

Some flashaholics dislike the new Infinities, mainly because they like the original CMG design back when they were made in the USA. Personally, I own both CMG and Gerber Infinity lights and see no difference in output, but I do like the older twist head design better. Also, I haven't experienced "QC" issues with my Gerber Infinity. Incidentally, you may still find Gerber Infinities in their original configuration like the one in Sharp Phil's picture.

Aside from the re-designed Infinity, Gerber also has the Trio, LX1.0 and LX3.0 flashlights. Despite the fact that they're made in China, they are actually very good flashlights. I have a Trio in silver finish and an LX3.0 in grey finish and they are well made rugged flashlights. You definately won't be disappointed with the Trio.

The Infinity Ultra-G is the one to have, as long as they're still around. They're leaving pretty quickly. .
