Anybody else have one of these? I've managed to break the tip off the small screw driver, the spring in the scissors and the screw to the wire cutters. And none of it was anywhere close to abuse. The scissors broke cutting paper. The screwdriver tip snapped while screwing the battery cover onto a kids toy and the wire cutters broke cutting speaker wire for my stereo.

I have not trusted a Gerber multi-tool in close to 10 years. They make OK little cheapie tools like the Artifact and I am pretty dang pleased with my EAC folding moneyclip utility knife thing. made with love from China, but priced in the under 10 smackers category.

The Gerber pliers tools always seem to be some of the most cheaply made tools only slightly better than knock offs commanding prices on par with tools twice their quality. They have some pretty cool innovations, but they implement them poorly with horrible materials and manufacture. It's like building a robot out of dog crap. Sure it's a robot and all...but, man, it's made of dog crap;)

I'll stick with Vic, LM, or SOG and be one very happy camper.

^ That

As far as Gerber goes - if I can pay for what it's worth then I will; cheap. Artifact, EAB, and even the Clutch. That's as far as I will go with Gerber. And the only reason I picked up a clutch was because pliers this small are bound to break with any sort of non-minuscule task anyways, so why not spend only $15?

I have an old version of the Legend, I believe the first model they ever came out with, and it's been really solid. I have used it pretty heavily for many years and it's still my favorite multi tool. I'm glad to know that the QC has gone downhill, as I've been thinking about picking up one of the newer, smaller legend models for less conspicuous carry at work.

My first multi-tool was a nice Gerber Compact I bought back in '99 at Wal Mart. At the time, I was on my college's rowing crew, and we all had to carry a tool of some sort for fixing our very rickety boat:D

Not long after I was bitten by the multi-bug and picked up a PST. I dunno what happened to the Gerber. I might have given it to my dad. It was a fine tool, but every one I have dabbled with since (maybe once every 4 or 5 years I'll try one) has been very disappointing.

yep, I think I have the old version of the legend as well. I've had it since the mid 90's that thing is a tank. That being said, all the new ones I look at from them just feel cheap and lightweight instead of made to take anything.

i bought the legend 700, the 800's little brother. they are made in the usa unlike alot probably most of gerber tools which are from china. I did trade off the 700 not all that long after getting it. I really don't like the gerber multi's. They just seem cheap and not as user friendly as some of the competitors. Just my opinion though. There are alot of followers.
