Hello,

I'd appreciate your advice on this:

I want a knife to attach to my PFD (personal flotation device) for when I'm paddling my Alpacka Raft Denali Llama.

The Gerber is stainless steel, has a black coated blade, is built tough and can be carried inverted with a Mini Gear Keeper RT2 retainer.

Have I overlooked something? (I hope not as this model is about $200 in the UK!).

Many thanks (o:

I've chopped with it, pried with it, whittled through thick plastic, used the tip to hammer through steel pedal bin when I needed to create a couple of small openings... still in excellent condition :)

I've got no complaints out of mine.

The sheath sharpener can only be accessed when the leg strap/MOLLE attachment straps are removed, but that's the only issue.

LaPolicegear.com sells the LMFII for $60. I certainly wouldn't pay $200 for one!

I would not use the LMF II for that purpose because I feel it needs far too much force to get the knife out of the sheath. It is quite bulky and heavy. Yes it might be a good outdoor knife, but not a good cano knife. You dont want it to be too big, you are after all sitting down in a cano. My suggestion would be something smaller, like a RAT-3, Fallkniven WM1 or F1 or a 3" blade Bark River. Becker had this small neck knife before they went down. RAT has a similar one. What do you need a BIG knife for when you are sitting in a cano, whittling firewood, chopping trees, gutting a deer?
Maybe even a medium sized folder will do, or just a simple Mora knife (expendable).

You should however also bring a bigger knife in your pack, like a Fallkniven S1, RAT4 etc.
