Gerber LMF II steel question

LMF is now 420 HC, but it was a different steel when first introduced. Can’t find that info anywhere. Any ideas?

I'm pretty certain they were either 440A or 12C27. Can't remember which.

I'd buy the knife if it was 12c27 or better still 14c28n. But won't buy it because we are charged over 100 dollars here in the UK for a mass produced 420hc knife.
