Hello all,

I'd like to get a medium sized survival knife and I've narrowed it down to the following models: Gerber LMF, Gerber Prodigy, and Becker BK2.

I was wondering if anyone had any first hand experience with the Gerber Prodigy and Becker BK2. I was at a gun/knife show yesterday and was able to handle the Gerber LMF but the other models weren't available. The LMF was very nice and I really liked the grip. I previously considered the Kabar USMC and SOG Seal Pups knives prior to the gun/knife show but when I got to handle them they didn't feel as good to me as the Gerber LMF did. If the Prodigy feels similar to the LMF then I think I will lean towards the Prodigy since its a little lighter than the LMF.

The Becker BK2 is heavier and a plain blade so I'm wondering if its a similar type of knife as compared to the LMF, Prodigy, SOF Pup,(partial serr) and Kabar USMC (partial serr). If I purchased the Becker BK2 along with either the LMF or Prodigy, am I purchasing two similar type of knives or is the Becker BK2 different enough that I will get different uses from each knife.
The Becker also has a Carbon 1095 Cro- Van blade while the others (except for kabar) has a stainless blade. (Prodigy, LMF 12C27), (SOG AUS 8). Is the 12C27 a high quality stainless?

Thanks for any comments, suggestions or replies.

I like the LMF because the sheath has a sharpener built in. I use it in my deployment kit, in fact it is packed and waiting to go to Haiti next week when I go. The only down side is that it is really big so for fine work you need something smaller.
