Hello everyone,
I came across a Gerber lmf knife, from a guy at work and he want 50 bucks for it and it is new in the box,he got it last year and never used it.
Is this a good knife? I have been looking for an survival type knife for back woods exploring. But can not find any info on this fourm on this knife,so I'am asking for any info good or bad on this knife,if anyone used one please let me know.
It has alot of nice stuff with it like a built in sharpener, leg ties, not sure if the sheath is kydex or some other stuff oh and a line cutter.
Any info would be alot of help
Thanks Eno

If it's new in the box, $50 isn't a bad deal. The running price online tends to be around $60 or so. I picked one up not long ago as well. It's a hefty knife with a large handle if you have bigger hands. I've seen some complaints about the grip material. It's kind of rubbery, but it's very secure even when wet.

The knife is partially serrated with the serrations taking up a lot of the blade area that typically does the most cutting. For survival and back woods exploring though, you could find the serrations very useful so it's your call. The butt of the handle comes to a point to be used as a glass breaker, but it does flatten out at the bottom for use as a hammer too. Overall, the knife is very stout and I feel comfortable putting it through abuse. You may even find it too heavy for an outdoors knife. It's not much of a chopper though.

I can't comment on the sheath, because I picked up a Spec-Ops sheath with the knife. I've heard that the sheath system is flexible with several carry options and the knife is held very securely, maybe even to a fault. Hope this helps.

I had one and it was alright. I sold it and got me a RC4. For 50 bucks its a pretty good deal.

This knife was designed under military specifications and in some aspects surpassed them. Read this link for a real testemonial:

I currently own two of them. when my eldest son comes of age, he will recieve one. I just bought the LMF II ASEK version with the knife, sheath, and the webbing cutter in its own sheath. all sheaths are MOLLIE compatable. I recently bought one for my nephew who is in the Airforce, in training to be an MP, and later a copter pilot.

this knife was developed, as the article above noted, to be able to hack your way out of a coptor fluselage, wiring and all! I suspect that it is a perfect tool for urban combat along with the usual wilderness survival.

Pick one up at that price, because just the basic model is like $75! Best of luck to you, hope you get it.

Gerber LMF II for $50 is good value. You're not gonna regret it.
